Can You Help This Severely Burned Officer’s Family?

Explorer to Officer

“I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me,” Jack Kruse said. “I don’t know what was going on in Joshua Graham’s life that inspired him to write that quote, but it should be every burn survivor’s rallying cry.” Jack’s Facebook post of February 8 reads: Please pray for my son Kris Kruse, the best child any parent could hope for.  He’s in Orlando Regional Medical Center’s ICU with severe burns over 65% of his body. He was airlifted there last night following a fuel container explosion that covered him with burning gasoline. He needs to

Donald Trump and the Rabid Raccoons

CPC Raccoon

Recently Chris Mills of ChristianConservatives.net wrote of his disappointment in the Trump campaign, and the ways it doesn’t jibe with Christianity.  A comment following the article is the most enlightening account yet found for the formerly inexplicable support of Donald Trump.  It has been edited for brevity: Want an explanation on why people support Donald Trump, even though he is often a jerk?  Here’s a great explanation:  You’ve been on vacation for two weeks, you come home, and hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons have overtaken your basement.  You want them gone immediately.  You call the city, 4 different

Yo, Pot-Smoking Hippie Dudes, Your Habit Causes Gun Violence

SW Smoking marijuana

I can’t help but laugh when I see the fringe hippies and their tie-dyed friends protesting for “common sense” gun control, and their hope for the demise of the Second Amendment. They don’t see any issue, however, with smoking marijuana.  Pot is no big deal right?  Perhaps all of their psychedelic mushrooms, acid trips, and VW bus exhaust have addled their brains, because there is no way to deny that guns and drugs are inextricably linked, and their demand for pot plays a necessary and significant role in the violent crime culture. It’s only fair that I put my

Abortion Is A Betrayal To Child And Self

SW Baby from The Blaze

The doctor held up my daughter for me to see, and my life changed in a nanosecond.  Trite and cliché, yes, but it was an amazing and life changing revelation, like a religious experience.  Understanding that kind of love is the miracle that is your child – to know, unequivocally, that you will do or be anything for this child.  You will die for her without hesitation. This is the moment you perceive your purpose, know your place in the universe, and grasp the answer to the ultimate question…”Why am I here?” Biology gives women the supreme responsibility for

Point, Counterpoint

Recently I received a letter from James, or Jason. I’m not sure because he signed James, but used Jason in the Contact form. No matter. When I attempted to reply, the email was returned undelivered. Below I have included both the letter from James as well as my response.   “As a liberal with an open mind I started reading your blog hoping that I had found a conservative willing to engage with me. — or just to read. What brought me to your site was a thoughtful post on another site. Then I was told how awful I

Trouble, Left and Right

Sometimes I experience a brief period of optimism, a day here and there, occasionally more. The good days come less often as the weeks pass. I was so happy to get to 2016, Obama’s last year in office, election year. The campaign started off great, with quite a good field of candidates, some old faces, and some fresh ones. There was a general feeling in the air that this year would be good for conservatives. The electorate had seen and heard enough from the current quasi-socialist administration. There was real anger. Of course it was discomfiting to see so

A Heavy Blow to Constitutional Conservatism

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Justice Antonin Scalia. The man was a stalwart constitutionalist. I can think of no higher praise. Some were surprised to find that his opinions fell on both sides of the political divide during his years on the Supreme Court. At a time when political ideology more often rules the Courts and when the term ‘judicial activism’ is somewhat redundant, he stood on the side of intellectual honesty. There is nothing more we can ask of our jurists. Justice Scalia was deeply committed to preserving the integrity of our Constitution, and in

The Two Corinthians to Donald Trump: “How Great Thou Art?”

I am living in an alternate universe, or perhaps bizarre world. The President of Liberty University has endorsed an individual that is not in line with the spirit for which Liberty University stands. Rev. Falwell Jr., in my opinion, is either naive or ignorant of Mr. Trump’s behavior of the recent past regarding abortion and women. Also, his wide-ranging political theory, without regard for our Constitution, is prohibitive to the cause of liberty, freedom of religion, and the rule of law.   ON ABORTION — In the following excerpts from a Dec. 5, 2015 article for LiveActionNews, author Bethany Blanckley states the difficulty

There Are Three Kinds Of Liberals…

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s nearly impossible to have a cogent, intelligent conversation with a liberal. It’s like banging your head against a wall. No matter how much factual, documented, or even scientific data you show, their replies fall into a similar pattern: racist, blah blah blah, rich, blah blah blah, greedy, blah, mean, idiot, blah blah, heartless, blah blah blah blah blah. It’s maddening. It reminds me of trying to reason with a child, and, we all know, that cannot be done. A child’s brain is not developed to a point of understanding logic and consequences.

Should Bernice Get An Apology?

I’m in hot water with some of my loved ones because they feel that I was unduly harsh toward Bernice, the subject of a previous post (Who’s Helping The Poor?) Bernice’s mother and father have been surrogate parents to my children, and I love and trust them. It’s a parent’s instinct to always protect their child, even after the child is an adult. This is doubly true of fathers and daughters. My husband tells me that although his daughter (from a previous marriage) has grown children of her own, he still feels protective of her. Parenting is a learn-as-you-go proposition, and

Truth Is Not Hate…

2015 was a tough year. An interaction that really stands out involves a hateful note to me from someone I’d thought of as a friend for twenty plus years. Yes, I anticipated vitriol when I decided to blog. It was surprising, though, that it came from someone so close. She posted a meme on Facebook – from “Being Liberal with Melissa Lawrence.” I took that to mean she was implying that conservatives are not loving or kind. I commented, “We feel the same way.” or something along those lines. Her biting retort, which I don’t recall now, was like a dare, and

Who Is Helping The Poor?

Happy 2016! I’m rested and ready to get to work. I had planned to write on a different topic today, but I was perusing Facebook when a young woman I’ll call Bernice, hit me with an ugly leftist post. I dearly love this girl. She’s a bright college senior and she’s been sucking up knowledge like a sponge for the last three and a half years. I could say that’s a good thing except that our institutions of higher learning are no longer guiding and leading students to seek truth, but most often are indoctrinating and propagandizing the collective

It’s Time To Speak Up For America, Or You’ll Get The America You Deserve

Double Rainbow over Okeefenokee Swamp

I have always felt a strong sense of respect for the office of the president. It didn’t matter whether I had voted for him or which party he was from, by virtue of holding the highest office in the world, he had my respect. Look at pictures of any past president at his Inauguration, and then again at his end of term. See the stress and worry of thousands of difficult decisions etched on his face. I cannot imagine carrying the weight of each of those judgments, but I know without a second thought, that it is the toughest

Progressives Intolerant Of All Things Republican

I believe this is the finest group of Republican presidential nominees we’ve fielded in 35 years. We have the Libertarian, three very impressive first generation immigrants, an ordinary woman who punched her way through the proverbial glass ceiling while the boys club looked on, a brilliant doctor who came from dire poverty and propelled himself to incredible heights. None of these candidates are career politicians from the ruling elite, and none come from privilege. Each offers the unique perspective that only comes from personal struggle with oppression, poverty, hunger, or persecution. We’d do well to listen to their stories and take
